Nurulasyiqah Mohammad Taha and spexScholar Toh Sze Ning placed Singapore in the international arena by coming in 4th in the BC3 Pairs event at the BISFed 2018 Dubai Boccia World Open. Having topped their pools with 3 wins (against Chinese Taipei, Australia and Poland), the duo clinched a spot in the semi-finals against Japan. Narrowly missing the chance to secure a spot in the final, the duo scored 3-4 against Japan. The loss meant that they faced Australia for the 3rd and 4th place play-off. After a hectic day where they played 4 consecutive games in one day, the duo lost 0-7 to Australian Spencer Cotie and Daniel Michel (the pair ranks 2nd in the world)
Even though they fell just shy of entering the final, Nurulasyiqah Mohammad Taha shares “A great end of the 2018 competition. Coming in 4th was not our ultimate goal but we did our best and together we will come out stronger for future games. Now it is time to head back, regroup and analyze better strategies for future games.”
Another laudable achievement that was witnessed earlier in the competition was when spexScholar Toh Sze Ning became the only female in the category to make it to the Top 8 for the B3 Individuals event after 2 wins. Toh Sze Ning said “Playing against the World number 1 Greek player Grigorios Polychronidis was a good opportunity for me. It tested my skills and though I didn’t win that match, it gave me good insights on how to play better.”
