The Micron Singapore World Para Bowling Tour Series 2019 starts today as over 100 athletes from ten countries – Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Chinese Taipei, Thailand and Singapore -gather to pit their bowling skills against one another.
Setting the tone for the start of the competition, Thomas Nathan Chan bagged a Gold in the Singles TPB1(Mixed) category with a score of 860 ahead of Muhammad Hirul Miran (MAS), a score of followed by Krisada Kietkongtawee (THA), with a score of 670.
Mirroring his compatriot, debutant Low Chang Hong topped the Singles TPB9 (Mixed) category with a score of 1265 and is followed closely by his competitors Abu Bakar Nyat (MAS), with a score of 1199 and Lin Yen-Shuan (TPE), with a score of 1196.
Low shares “Today’s success would not have been possible if I had not worked towards pursuing my dream of representing the nation. My mantra in bowling is ‘Don’t just dream, Live it’ and I guess it worked out great today. It was overwhelming but I am glad I got through my first day of competition with a commendable placing.”
Asian Para Games Silver medallist, Diane Neo, squeezed her way into second place in the Woman’s TPB4 Singles category with a score of 920, just 3 points ahead of Nur Syazwani Marais (MAS), a score of 917 and behind Elsa Maris who is the 2018 Asian Para Games Gold medallist.
The competition will continue till 27 July 2019.
This Micron Singapore World Para Bowling Tour Series 2019 was made possible by Micron Singapore, which had made a pledge of $100,000 to the Singapore Disability Sports Council’s (SDSC) “Live the Dream” programme to promote para sports among persons with disabilities. In addition, more than 200 Micron employees will be supporting the event as team liaison officers and lane marshals.

We are delighted that the platform is gaining traction with twice the number of athletes participating this year. I am also heartened that we have 45% more volunteers compared to 2018, and we are looking forward to engaging the athletes in the exciting few days ahead,” said Mr Chen Kok Sing, Micron Vice President and Singapore Country Manager.
In conjunction with the competition, SDSC is also conducting learning journeys for schools and organisations. These complimentary learning journeys aim to expose the public to disability sports by giving them the opportunity to participate in blindfold and seated bowling. Participants will also interact with the para bowlers at the event.
